A meta-analysis of 12 randomized trials with nearly 100,000 people with type 2 diabetes found no significant reduction in major cardiovascular or kidney events when SGLT2 and GLP-1 medicines were combined rather than used alone. The analysis found a small reduction in heart-failure hospital admissions in some comparisons. The result matters because combining treatments can sound like a simple way to add benefits. But the studies varied in design and outcomes, and subgroup evidence cannot establish what any individual should receive.
