A small trial found an aging-biomarker signal, not a way to reverse aging

UC San Diego researchers report early clinical evidence that semaglutide may influence biological aging markers.

In a randomized 32-week study of 108 adults with HIV-associated lipohypertrophy, semaglutide was associated with slower movement on several epigenetic aging clocks than placebo. One measure of biological aging pace moved 9% more slowly in the treatment group.

The finding is interesting because chronic inflammation and metabolic stress can be especially pronounced in people living with HIV. But the clocks are biomarkers, not a direct count of years lived, and the trial did not show that anyone became younger or avoided age-related disease.

Larger studies will need to test whether the signal lasts, appears in other populations, and connects to outcomes people can feel or measure in daily life. For now, it is an early biological clue rather than an anti-aging claim.
