Usage has jumped, but cost, coverage, trust, and medical fit still keep many people outside the category.

A 2026 national survey found that 11% of adults reported currently using a GLP-1 medicine for weight loss. The figure described a rapid change in consumer exposure, but it also showed that most adults were not using these medicines.

The access bottleneck was not simply awareness. Price and insurance coverage separated a highly visible category of medicines from the households that could sustain a prescription, leaving uptake uneven even as supply conditions improved.

The number is self-reported survey evidence, not proof of effectiveness or a cause of population health trends. It cannot show what any individual should use or whether reported use will persist.
