In a phase 2 trial, adults receiving higher studied doses of retatrutide had greater weight reduction than those receiving placebo through 48 weeks.

The study also recorded gastrointestinal adverse events and more treatment discontinuations at higher doses, so the results describe a trial rather than a settled long-term outcome.

Larger and longer studies are needed to clarify durability, safety and the role of the medicine beyond this early-stage evidence.
